Can poetry matter?

Poetry does and always will matter. In poetry one word can mean so many different things. That is one thing that I do like about it. Poetry can have so many different meanings yet also have the same. Poetry is almost lost in certain ways. I feel like not many people want to spend time anymore thinking of or about poetry. If you just sit back and listen around many people may quote songs. If you look at the lyrics most of them rhyme and tell a story. That is what poetry does, tell a story. Whether it is two lines or two hundred lines it gives you a story and insight to some thought. It may be a new though or view of something or it may trigger a memory and make you laugh, cry, feel sad or excited. This is just a very small insight to why I think that poetry matters.

  1. I think you're right about the storytelling. It seems that students are drawn to the poems which are the most narrative. If they have to dig to figure out what is going on, they get frustrated. But if the story is right there and available, the students relax into the poem.
